Toronto 1855 - 1859 Legislative Council voted to consider the claims of five rival cities – Quebec, Toronto, Kingston, Montreal and Ottawa – to be the permanent capital. 1856
Quebec 1859 - 1865
Ottawa became the functional legislative capital in 1866.
Ottawa officially made the Capital of the Dominion of Canada with Confederation in 1867.

Although chosen in 1857, Ottawa did not hold its first session of parliament for another 9 years.

On that same day, the Legislative Assembly also accepted that a sum of money should be appropriated for providing buildings for the Government at that place chosen.
